Sudarshan Chakra

As the legends go, Vishwakarma created three things out of the remnants of the shavings of the Sun, the Trishul, the Sudarshan Chakra and the Pushpaka Vimana. Sudarshan Chakra, circular in shape, a continuously rotating disk made up of some rare element, floating in the thin air upon the index finger, with edges so sharp it can pass through anything. Some say it has 108 teeth and some say the count is in millions. Through the ages we see Gods and idols holding this weapon, conveying that when dharma is in peril they would not hesitate and unleash its power to crush the evil tyranny. Sudarshan in English means good vision while chakra could signify the raw energy that it possesses or the circular nature of birth and rebirth. As per the ancient texts, the mighty Vishnu held it, his avatars have wielded it to preserve the good. Glistening and representing the Sun’s nuclear fusion chambers this fearsome object sliced heads like a hot knife that went through the butter. Release, chop the head off and return, a simple procedure adopted to crush the bad. Oh what divinity, made by the Gods for the Gods against the Gods.

It's 2018 now, we see a kid of probably eight or nine years of age, thin as a stick in tattered clothes. Standing by the roadside he has his rag picking bag on one of his shoulder. On the other hand, he has a compact disk. He holds it in its finger through the hole, looking at the changing colors on the disk a smile comes to his face. But then, of a sudden, he becomes angry and throws the compact disk. The disk hurls through the air, displaying scintillating flight in the sunlight and then finally falling on the asphalt road. Traffic moves on as usual, and a truck crushes the compact disk under its might. The boy turns his back to the road and keeps moving. The boy was no God but his hunger, poverty, illiteracy and many other evils still held their ground, laughing at him. His weapon of choice was poor and that was not enough to decapitate the evils of the society. He probably had good vision and the energy, but then why was he being subdued. If the Gods gave him the sun chakra just for once, what would this boy do with it? Would he behave as an egoist and behead anyone who causes him harm, or would he truly kill the devils of the society?

Sudarshan Chakra is just a metaphor, but whosoever holds it must use it to kill the wrongs in this world. For now this boy is still carrying the weight of bad things upon his shoulder, he might just earn his one meal out of it or maybe not. The evils still stands tall, towering over this small boy, where are the avatars, when will they come? Isn’t this the Kalyuga that we were promised it would be? Or the worst is yet to come?  Oh, Vishwakarma, the architect of the Gods, where are you and where are your weapons?
