Welcome to yet another
beautifully built example of the Mughal architecture. This my friends is called
the Humanyun’s tomb. A tomb which we pay to enter, 30 rupees for Indians and
500 rupees for foreigners. This red and white sandstone building lies in the
center with greenery and water flowing on all four sides. It is as if life is
desperately trying to crawl around the graves that have been enclosed in this
monumental marvel. Dead and decayed sleeping in the tombs whereas trees and the
grass breathing the carbon dioxide on the outside.
Just imagine the workers working
throughout the day, chiseling the stones, carving intricate shapes and patterns
all just to add an extra appeal. Imagine this, if sound is an energy and noise
is a form of sound and energy cannot be created or destroyed, then that sound
is now transformed, trapped in the stones that make this structure stand tall.
Imagine all the cumulative hammering on the stones, oh the level of sounds, but
now this Droid hears none of those. Instead there is a level of calmness to it.
Droid sees people roaming around this monument, talking photographs, smiling
and enjoying the winter sun. Joyful laughs can be heard echoing across the chambers
and voices of the dead unheard on the other end.
As Droid roams about this
monument he ponders and says to himself “But it is a graveyard, isn’t it?”. The
chills like being at cemetery are now being experienced by him, but the only
difference is that it is broad daylight and probably the ghosts of the dead are
sleeping. Are ghosts or lost souls indeed the creatures of the night? Nocturnal
beings of the paranormal world are often talked to be roaming about in the
darkness that comes after the sunset. Over 160 Mughals are currently resting in
this compound. It gets spookier if the number of people alive in the complex is
actually less than the dead. The dead shall not rise but still the bodies rot
in the ground providing an evidence of degradation as one day this entire
monument shall turn to dust and nothing shall remain in its place. When time
immemorial has passed, when the dead have decayed, when the stones are
irreparable, then shall this monument become a true graveyard. It would lose
all its brilliance, glow and sheer expanse-both horizontal and vertical. Till
then visit this beautiful marvel and do not forget to take a picture.
