Space-Time

Stephen Hawking once said, “If time travel is possible, where are the tourists from the future?” It is an interesting thought since no one showed at his party. A party he held especially for the so called time travelers. Now, I have no expertise on theoretical physics and neither do I have an expert knowledge about the cosmos that surrounds us, so, you must pardon any of my brain’s short comings in comprehending the working of the intermingled space-time continuum.

“If only, our love was as blended as the space time continuum,

Inseparable yin-yang, it would have been fun.”

This isn’t going to be a scientific paper, so, do not expect to prove any of the unproven hypotheses. I am just going to state the obvious. Okay, so let us begin a journey beyond our space and on the river of time. First of all, get a novel in your hand. Go on and get it. I am sorry if you do not possess a novel in your house or home. You can use book or blank notebook too. Just flip the pages of the novel in one go. Did you hear a series of frequencies? Remember this sound. Now, imagine yourself rewinding an old VHS tape (I hope you have used a VHS tape, or even an audio cassette for that matter). Do you remember this sound too?  Don’t they sound similar? The sound of flipping pages of a book all at once is strikingly similar to the sound that a VHS tape makes when you try to rewind it. Tape goes forward and backward in time and moving pictures tell us a tale of a bygone space. A novel does the same too, transporting us through the intermingled space time continuum, to a place where words take us.

We are in fact time travelers. Although we move in a particular direction and that is forward. Yet we can travel back in time whenever we want, can we? How? Well, that’s what memories are there for. We can play, pause and rewind. But we cannot change them because if changed, memories won’t remain memories anymore. We get old creating photographs and videos in our minds. Visualization gives us a key to teleport, to imagine what other places are like. Yes, it is not time travel and space travel in real sense. But then, time travel has not been invented yet. So, if we time travelers did not show to a party does not mean we people do not exist. We travelers have different dimension and different timeline of our own. Dr Stephen Hawking, you too are a time traveler. So, technically time travelers did show at your party. Oh, what weird thoughts.

Khalil Gibran has said some wise words on time

You would measure time the measureless and the immeasurable.

You would adjust your conduct and even direct the course of your spirit according to hours and seasons.

Of time you would make a stream upon whose bank you would sit and watch its flowing.

Yet the timeless in you is aware of life's timelessness,

And knows that yesterday is but today's memory and tomorrow is today's dream.

And that that which sings and contemplates in you is still dwelling within the bounds of that first moment which scattered the stars into space.

Who among you does not feel that his power to love is boundless?

And yet who does not feel that very love, though boundless, encompassed within the center of his being, and moving not from love thought to love thought, nor from love deeds to other love deeds?

And is not time even as love is, undivided and space less?

But if in your thought you must measure time into seasons, let each season encircle all the other seasons,

And let today embrace the past with remembrance and the future with longing.
